Thanksgiving is officially one week away, so you know what that means: It’s time to break out the turkey stuffing and the mashed potatoes. Looking for a fun family activity to do to get your appetite up in the meantime? Here are five family-friendly events to check out over the weekend, including an additional turkey dinner if one Thanksgiving celebration isn’t enough for you.
Gobble, gobble. All eyes are on one thing – the turkey! But before it stops by your kitchen table, swing by Taste Buds Kitchen and enjoy turkey cupcakes during its special workshop at 9 a.m. on Saturday at 2140 E. Southlake Blvd. Make creative chocolate cupcakes in the shape of turkeys then decorate them with candy corn afterward. You’ll be thankful you stopped by right before Thanksgiving festivities.
Home for the Holidays Tree Lighting Ceremony
Southlake is lighting up for the holidays, and you’re invited to come and see Southlake Town Square transform into a winter wonderland! Come to Southlake Town Square at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and build a snowman, take a carriage ride or snap a photo with Santa Claus himself. Stick around at 6 p.m. and watch Southlake light up the Christmas tree for its annual tree lighting ceremony. It's the most wonderful time of the year in Southlake.
Can’t wait until next Thursday to dine on some delicious turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy? Get your Thanksgiving fix early at First United Methodist Church’s Thanksgiving celebration at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday at 1000 Church Street. Bring a small salad or dish of your choice and enjoy the assemblage of meat, sides, fruit and vegetables! Come on out and celebrate Thanksgiving early before the big turkey day next week!
Bowling, laser tag and a ropes course: What else could make your Sunday more fun? From 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Main Event, located at 407 W. State Hwy. 114, the North Texas Jeep Club is hosting a public event where you can bring your whole family out for a fun evening! Bowling is $7.99, but mention "NTJC" and you'll get the $30 full package discounted at $20.29. Then you’ll get unlimited bowling, laser tag and access to the rope course for the full evening. Register online and come have a blast!
Sure, your kids need to take their photo with Santa, but what about your pets? Bring your dog to Grapevine Mills Mall from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday and they’ll get the chance to meet Santa in person! When they’re done wagging their tails and barking to Santa what they want for Christmas, you can snap a picture of them and keep the memory with you forever. Don’t forget to dress your pup up in fluffy Santa and elf hats for the occasion!
