Ice cream, Nerf darts and doggie dates by the poolside — all of this and more is part of this weekend's family entertainment. Whether you're teaching your kids disco or are looking for a fun theater performance benefitting one of the most generous charities in the nation, there's plenty of family fun to have this weekend, if you know where to look for it.

Who says you’re the only one deserving of a dive in the pool? The Pleasant Glade Swimming Pool is hosting a special Doggie Dive-In for some of its four-legged pals at 10 a.m. on Saturday at 1805 Hall Johnson Road, and you’re invited to bring your furry little pal along with! For $5, your best friend can participate in swimming competitions, win big prizes and enjoy the hot summer fun splashing around. Don’t forget the sub-“woof”-er.
Lock and load. From 5-9 p.m. on Saturday at Southlake ATA Martial Arts at 2001 W. Southlake Blvd, Suite 155, your child will get the chance to show others why he’s the best Nerfer in down. Join several other kids on the battlefield as you load up, take aim and fire away in this exciting Nerf battle where only the best shooter comes out on top. So unholster your weapon, solder: It’s Nerfin’ time!
There’s only one way to make free ice cream even sweeter, and that’s when one of the dedicated Girl Scouts hands it to you herself. Come to White’s Chapel UMC at 3 p.m. on Sunday at 185 S. White Chapel Blvd. for this free ice cream social event and learn why the Girl Scout experience can be so rewarding. Who knows? When you’re done wiping the ice cream from your face, you might want to sign up your little girl to become a Girl Scout herself.
