While most of the State Fair of Texas has been affected by COVID-19, one beloved tradition will live on: the AT&T Red River Showdown. The game between the Texas Longhorns and the University of Oklahoma Sooners has been played since 1929. This year, the rivals will compete in Cotton Bowl Stadium at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 10. Here are a few things to know before heading out to the game.
Snagging Tickets
Because of COVID-19, the game will be limited to 25% capacity. Only a limited number of tickets will be distributed by the University of Texas and Oklahoma to ensure fans can reserve their seats. After arriving after the gates open at 8 a.m., presenting your 2020 game ticket to enter the parking lot and fairgrounds and going through the fairgrounds and Cotton Bowl Stadium security, keep distance between yourself and other groups.
Getting Ready
To ensure safety, guests must adhere to the Cotton Bowl Stadium’s clear bag policy. Guests also must wear cloth or surgical masks that cover their noses and mouths completely at all times. Masks may be removed temporarily, only if necessary, for drinking and eating while in the stadium seating bowl or in common areas. Face shields, gaiters, bandanas or masks with valves are not permitted.
Heading Out
Parking will be available at gates 5, 6, 8, 10 and 11 for daytime hours only for $25. Guests can pay via cash, credit/debit or Apple/Google Play. Don’t plan to come early if you want to tailgate in the parking lot, as the pre-game activity is prohibited. If you are taking an Uber or Lyft, be sure to head to gate 1, located at Gurley Avenue and S. Haskell Avenue. Dart trains and busses will also be operating but may be busier due to increased game traffic.
Planning Around Food
Outdoor concessions, including some State Fair of Texas classics, will be available starting at 8 a.m. The Big Tex Fair Food Drive-Thru, a special event in lieu of the traditional fair, will not be open on game day. Fair coupons will not be accepted as payment due to the cancellation of the 2020 fair, so plan to use cash or credit/debit cards as a payment method. And before diving into that delicious grub, take advantage of the hand sanitizing stations available throughout the grounds.
