Discovery - Maureen-Rustrian
Maureen Rustrian (left) was surprised at her New Jersey home by HGTV host and designer Tiffany Brooks (right) with the news that she is the winner of the HGTV Smart Home Giveaway 2019, valued at more than $1.2 million. Rustrian's name was randomly drawn from 97 million entries in the sweepstakes. Her winnings include the HGTV Smart Home 2019 and all its furnishings, a 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE and $100,000 from LendingTree. (Also pictured center: Rustrian's husband, Miguel.)
Last week, Maureen Rustrian thought she was going to a backyard summer barbeque to meet up with a friend from Boston. Instead, she ran into HGTV designer and host Tiffany Brooks and her TV crew, as well as the news that she just won HGTV’s 2019 Smart Home Giveaway.
“I thought it was a joke at first, but then I realized that no one would actually have all this equipment with the cameras, lights and microphones,” Rustrian saya via press release. “And then I heard Tiffany’s voice – it’s so distinct – and it slowly started to sink in.”
Rustrian is a credit analyst from Basking Ridge, New Jersey who entered for the giveaway twice a day, every day during the sweepstakes period. A self-proclaimed HGTV addict, Rustrian says she doesn’t get control of the TV remote as often as she’d like with three boys living at home. Still, that didn’t stop her from winning the grand sweepstakes prize from 97 million entries.
The giveaway includes a 3,400 square-foot home and its furnishings in Roanoke, TX, a 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE and a $100,000 check from LendingTree. The total package is worth over $1.2 million.
The three-bedroom and three-and-a-half bathroom smart home was designed by Brooks and planned and built by the Plano-based firm Highland Homes. The single-level residence features a media room with a movie theater projector, a home office, library, playroom, a laundry room with a dog washing station and a large outdoor patio with a grilling and gaming area, movie screen and covered dining spaces.
“I love the entryway tilework, the high ceilings, the layout and the darker colors Tiffany used in the home,” Rustrian says via press release. “It’s all absolutely beautiful. But my favorite part is how open the kitchen is to the family room. I love to cook, but our home doesn’t have the open concept.”
Rustrian says she has never been to Texas before, but she and her husband will get a chance to visit the home for the first time in the next few weeks. Viewers can watch her reaction to the reveal and the home visitation by watching the HGTV Smart Home Giveaway Special at 12 p.m. on Friday, August 16.
