I started teaching golf in 1985 – 33 years ago.
What drew you to golf?
My dad drew me to golf when I was eight years old.
What is your main advice for beginners?
I tell them to answer these three questions. ‘Why do you want to play golf?’ ‘What do you want to achieve by playing golf?’‘ When do you want to achieve these goals?’
What’s the most common mistake golfers make?
The most common mistake is not getting a free assessment by a PGA Professional and failing to set goals.
What’s the easiest way to improve your swing?
Learn that the swing is the effect of the causes: grip, aim, posture and the mind. Every single golfer I have worked with for 33 years has wanted to be more consistent. Go see a PGA Pro and learn how to hold the club so that the club face is straight (square) every time. Shots will start at the target when the face is square. Then, learn how to aim the body where the arms swing fairly straight through the ball. Thirdly, get into an athletic posture so you can swing with power and not injure yourself.
Who is your favorite professional golfer?
The King – Arnold Palmer. Arnie did more for the game than anyone.
What’s your favorite golf course you have played?
My favorite course that I've played is Pebble Beach.
