The Raleigh Ringers
Bells will be ringing in Southlake tomorrow when the Raleigh Ringers take the stage at White’s Chapel at United Methodist Church.
The Raleigh Ringers is an internationally acclaimed handbell choir that specializes in using the one of the most extensive collections of handbells and bell-like instruments to perform original music, classical pieces and even their own renditions of some rock 'n' roll hits. According to a media release, the group can cover 36 and a half octaves on 494 pieces of equipment, with their heaviest Malmark handbell weighing in around 15 pounds.
Founded in 1990 by music director David Harris, the Raleigh Ringers has performed in 39 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Canada, England and France. The group has released six CDs and two DVDs of their holiday concert performances, which have also broadcast on more than 250 public television stations in 45 states.
“When we started, there was probably only six or eight community-based handbell choirs in the country and now there are probably over 150,” Harris told the Stanly News & Press. “It’s still growing.”
The show begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at 185 S. White Chapel Blvd. Tickets are available online for $20, and $10 tickets are available for seniors older than 65 and children younger than 10.
