In an era where convenience and speed are expected, some lucky Southlake residents can now catch a glimpse of the future with drone delivery services. This innovative venture from Walmart, one of the country’s largest and most trusted retailers, proves the sky's the limit when it comes to on-demand delivery for a wide range of everyday items.
Wing, in partnership with DFW-area Walmart stores, started providing drone delivery services to Frisco in 2022, Lewisville in 2023 and in nearby North Richland Hills this April. The increasingly successful small-market launches utilized advanced drones capable of flying beyond visual line of sight. For Southlake and nearby communities, this means locals can get lightweight yet all-important items like medicines with mind-blowing efficiency.
Orders placed through the Wing app can also be used for a wide variety of essentials from bandages to birthday candles as long as they’re under 2.3 pounds and within the approximate 6-mile range of participating stores. Those in the Southlake area can be served by either of the Walmart Supercenters on Loop 820 or on 9101 North Tarrant Parkway in North Richland Hills.
The continued progress of drone delivery in North Texas has been impressive. Over the last two years, Walmart completed over 20,000 safe deliveries across more than 30 towns in the DFW Metroplex. With the recent launches coming from North Richland Hills, they offer service to as much as 75% of the Dallas-Fort Worth population.
“This expansion will bring the ultimate convenience of drone delivery to communities across the DFW area,” says Prathibha Rajashekhar, Walmart innovation and automation senior vice president, via press release. “Customers will have access to a broad assortment of items from Walmart available for delivery to their home in just minutes. Drone delivery is not just a concept of the future — it’s happening now and will soon be a reality for millions of additional Texans.”
To place an order, simply visit Wing.com/Walmart, confirm your address is within the delivery zone, then download the Wing app from Apple or Google Play stores. A recent post from Southlake DPS says the zone includes a portion of Southlake located west of Carroll Avenue, south and west of Highway 114 and south of W. Dove Road.
Between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. customers can expect deliveries to be completed in as little as 10 minutes. Although, depending on the distance traveled a wider window of up to 30 minutes may be the norm.
Blending Walmart’s selection of products with the speed of drone delivery may just save you a last-minute trip to the store.
