Pets hold a special place in our hearts. Whether Beethoven is making a mess, Benji is rescuing children or Snoopy is flying in his doghouse, pets and their silly shenanigans always make for tail-wagging entertainment.
Walt Disney has no shortage of loveable canine companions. Nostalgic viewers can have a laugh thanks to the 101 Dalmatians swarming Cruella de Vil’s mansion, Bolt zapping his way through a superheroic adventure or Pluto licking Mickey Mouse senseless. Films like “The Aristocats” and “The Fox And The Hound,” on the other hand, show that our differences don’t define us. And that whether you crave the original version or the CGI remake of “The Lady And The Tramp,” spaghetti can bring us together.
Real-life animals also leave a big impression, like Winn-Dixie sliding through the grocery store and Lassie running home. Other doggie tales like “Old Yeller,” “Hachi: A Dog’s Tale” and “Marley & Me” will leave your eyes watery while the hounds in “Eight Below” and “Balto” pull off daring rescues. “Babe,” “Charlotte’s Web” and “Uptown Girls” show pet pigs snorting their way through life, and “The Secret Life Of Pets” reveals what house pets do while their owners are away. And although the comical canines in “Scooby-Doo,” “Marmaduke” and “The Call Of The Wild” look faker than the live-action “Garfield” or “Cats” movies, that doesn’t make them any less loveable.
