Whether you've been married a few years or a few decades, this piece is for you. It's time to revisit the concept of an oddly named vacation phenomenon – the honeymoon. Second honeymoons are most definitely a thing, and they come with the added bonuses of not being exhausted from planning a wedding. Instead, at this point, you're probably just exhausted from that fun thing referred to as “the grind.” Maybe you've been run ragged from work. Maybe you've had a few kids who all happen to be in a few sports. No matter your situation, it's time for your and your spouse to leave on a jet plane. (Although, unlike John Denver, you may want to book a return flight.) Since you've already done this once, we decided to highlight some places you probably didn't hit the first time around.
Guanaja, Honduras
Ah, the Caribbean. It sounds predictable, but in this little island's case, you may find it a bit less crowded. Guanaja is one of the Bay Islands of Honduras. Cruise ships stop in neighboring island Roatan, but you'll find Guanaja is far less traveled. It features a small airport and landing strip that larger commercial jets cannot access. The island features lush, tropical foliage and beautiful beaches, but come prepared to battle sand flies. For a truly secluded paradise, take a boat from the main island over to Graham's Place – a seven-acre private island owned by, you guessed it, Graham. The tiny island has a hotel, a house and individual bungalows for rent, all of which are beachfront. From your dwelling of choice, you can walk over to the restaurant and bar, where you'll find delectable seafood and sweet pina coladas to wash it down. Premiere fly fishing is within walking distance and coral reefs are a short boat ride away. No, it is not the easiest place to get to, and it may not be as luxurious as all-inclusive Caribbean resort hot spots, but these little islands are perfect for the adventurous couple who are done putting up with crowds. Malta
Malta seems to be one of those places that you recall hearing about but couldn't point to on a map. The island chain is located in the central Mediterranean between Sicily and the North African coast. Despite being one of the world's smallest and most densely populated countries, Malta has a rich history that extends far beyond its square milage. Featuring historical sites relating to the ancient Roman Empire, the Moors, Knights of Saint John as well as the French and British, this archipelago is a must-travel for history buffs. It is also famously home to the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, a subterranean complex of halls and burial chambers dating to circa 4000 B.C. Even if ancient history is of little interest to you, Malta still has plenty to fill your agenda. Its location in the middle of the clear, azure Mediterranean Sea makes Malta a premiere scuba diving location. Due to the calmness of its waters and low risk for dangerous fish, the country has been heralded as a top location for beginner divers. And, as you may have already guessed, the beaches aren't bad either. The main coastal resorts and larger sandy beaches are in the northern part of Malta, the most popular being Mellieħa Bay, Għajn Tuffieħa and Golden Bay. With so many sites to see and luxurious resorts to relax in after an activity-filled day, Malta is a great place to rekindle the romance. visitmalta.com
North Island, Seychelles
For many couples, it's not uncommon to have more expendable income once the second honeymoon rolls around. Hopefully that's the case if you were thinking of visiting this island. One of 42 Seychelles islands, North Island is small and privately owned. It was the 2011 honeymoon location of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, so if you want to feel like royalty, this is the island to visit. It comes at a price, however. Last year, Luxury-Hotels.com named North Island Lodge, the lone resort of the island, the most expensive hotel in the world, with an average nightly rate of $6,995. The resort's chef always ask for guest's preferences prior to their arrival and order ingredients based on their tastes. There are four private beaches and a luxury spa, making North Island the premiere paradise for relaxation – if you can move past the price tag. north-island.com
