Built in 1929, the Arizona Biltmore lies on 39 lush acres just south of the Phoenix Mountain Preserves. The resort recently completed a major renovation, yet the Frank Lloyd Wright influence and its reminiscent Hollywood glamor still reign supreme across 700-plus well-appointed rooms and suites.
With the updates came many new sophisticated dining destinations, wellness centers and yes, a pool for every day of the week. That’s right — guests who plan their stay at this five-star resort would be smart to bring a multitude of bathing suits since this property boasts seven pools ranging from family-friendly to adults-only.
Family Friendly
Waldorf Astoria is a brand recognized around the world for its commitment to elegant service across its global portfolio of ultra-luxurious properties. It may not be the first place you think of to bring the kids on vacation, but those who do won’t be disappointed. At the family-friendly Paradise Pool, there is ample decking and seating providing more than enough room for the entire family around its adjacent pools. This means everyone will be able to witness the joy of the pool’s main attraction — The Twist. Kids of all ages will want to make their way down all three of the slides shooting down this 65-foot-tall water slide. Even though the slides close by 6 p.m., the fun will last all day with temperature-regulated pools, air-conditioned cabanas and a splash pad for the little ones. Families who fancy water slides may choose to book a poolside room that keeps them steps away from the action, a distinct option the kids will never forget.
Just Relax
The classically-tiled Catalina Pool is the longest-running pool that rests in the heart of the action on the property. Known historically as a platform for pool-side fashion shows and peeks at Hollywood royalty, many celebrities frequented the elegant retreat that lived on to become a star of its own — including Marilyn Monroe.
The Ocatilla Pool is where guests go for a more intimate lounging experience that includes open-air canvas cabanas and deluxe poolside loungers. The Ocatilla Pool bar keeps the fun flowing, but then again, you’re never far from food and drink no matter where you are at the resort.
Peace and seclusion rule at other villa pools such as the Bougainvillea, Saguaro Villas and Terrace Court Pool. If you’re looking to take a break from the poolside, the newly-reimagined spa and wellness experience awaits at Tierra Luna Spa and Sol Garden, which has since been named a 2023 Four-Star Spa by “Forbes Travel Guide.” There you can get a Grounding Quartz Massage, where the energetic healing powers of warm quartz will calm your mind and soothe your body. Or get in a workout through either a game of tennis or pickleball, or take advantage of the expansive fitness facilities with or without a trainer.
Adults Only
As you would expect, the adults-only Saguaro Pool is smaller than its family-oriented counterpart, but that’s what helps give it its luxurious feel. Properly named after the 140-year-old Saguaro cactus that stands guard, the pool is just 3 feet deep, perfect for a relaxing dip that doesn’t disturb your drink from the nearby bar.
When it’s time to relax, renting a cabana at this quiet oasis is an investment in pure bliss. They suit up to six people and include televisions, chaise lounges, mister fans and mini-fridges to house your complimentary bottled waters and fruit.
Perhaps the best thing about The Saguaro Pool is that it’s temperature-controlled to 82 degrees and open 24 hours a day. In the evenings, escape the heat and the sun with mood lighting and water features that make for an entirely new date night vibe.
