Gaylord Texan’s Annual Summerfest
Through Sept. 5 | Grapevine
Pirate ships and treasure hunts, princess lessons and spa treatments, chef’s camp and escape rooms, animal encounters and dance parties — what could be better? Live a summer bigger than your wildest dreams at Gaylord Texan’s annual Summerfest, an event designed to encourage creativity and fun for the family. Your overnight stay includes a complimentary pass to Paradise Springs Water Park, with water slides, a play lagoon, an aquatic zipline, a lazy river, hot tubs and private cabanas to enjoy. After working up an appetite, grab a bite at Zeppole, a newly renovated Italian-American restaurant. Summer is as exciting and relaxing as you could ever want at the Gaylord Texan.
Aug. 6 | Cedar Hill
It’s August — you’re going to be hot no matter what you do. So, you might as well have a little fun while you suffer! The Blazin’ Summer Sufferfest is a new event in Cedar Hill State Park that takes place overnight (aka, the coolest time to be outside in a Texas summer). Racers, who are required to carry their own hydration device, will go along the trail at night from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. depending on which of the following races they choose: 5K, 10K, 18K, 36K or 54K. The unique race offers pretty views of Joe Pool Lake as you run with fellow heat enthusiasts.
Aug. 6 | Panther Island Pavilion
Level up your 5K game at the Fort Worth Classic, where participants will be asked to complete a 5K run after a 1-mile sprint. This inaugural event starts with a flat 1-mile route, where you’ll want to run as fast as you can against the other racers (yes, exactly like elementary school playground games). Next, you’ll run, jog or walk the 5K route that winds along the Trinity River. In addition to bragging rights, those who complete the race will get a free T-shirt, finisher’s medal and free Yuengling Flight Beer for those at least 21. Afterward, you can rent a paddleboard, kayak or canoe from Backwoods Paddlesports to cool off in the refreshing water.
Aug. 11-12 | American Airlines Center
When it comes to inspiring genuine laughter — the kind that literally makes you want to laugh out loud — no one does it better than Kevin Hart. For over 12 years, Kevin has been making people laugh at his pain, whether it’s through his own comedy specials such as “I’m A Grown Little Man” and “Let Me Explain” or hilarious comedies like “Ride Along” and “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle.” Now the award-winning comedian is bringing his zany, self-deprecating humor to American Airlines Center this month for his highly anticipated Reality Check tour.
Aug. 11-14 | Bass Hall
The 1960s weren’t always groovy, and six-time Tony-winning play “Dreamgirls” shows what it was like to live during that turbulent time. The Dreams, made up of Effie, Lorrell and Deena, are all talented singers who discovered the fame, fortune and ruthless realities of show business. The sparkling costumes and the amazing soundtrack will compete for your favorite part, especially with classic songs like “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” “Listen,” “I Am Changing” and “One Night Only.” With R&B acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, Jackie Wilson and James Brown inspiring the show, this moving musical will show you that one dream can change everything.
Aug. 13-14 | Dallas Arboretum
Spicy doesn’t begin to describe Pepper Palooza, the second annual event that’s all about peppers. Wander through the potager gardens to admire peppers of all kinds, then shop the 20 vendors who set up shop in the market to sell their jam, salsa, edamame beans, peppers and other pepper-inspired items. Although the vendor market will only be set up this weekend, you can check out the peppers on display from August 12-21.
Aug. 13 | Winspear Opera House
There’s movies you love, and there’s movies you love to hate — and sometimes, those are the most fun! Paul Scheer (“The League”), Jason Mantzoukas (“The League”) and June Diane Raphael (“Grace & Frankie”) are the hosts of the awardwinning “How Did This Get Made?” podcast, where they dissect the worst movies in cinematic history. This is one of the Top 10 most downloaded comedy podcasts, the 2022 Ambie Winner for Best Comedy Podcast and iHeart Radio’s Best TV & Film Podcast. Now they are taking their funny show on the road, where audiences can interact with the hosts, create impromptu songs for segments and watch never-before-seen clips.
Aug. 14 | AT&T Stadium
For the first time ever, pop and R&B legend The Weeknd is going on a global stadium tour — and he’s performing his last two albums live! The “After Hours Til Dawn Tour” marks the first time The Weeknd will be performing “After Hours” and “DAWN FM” for a live audience. The four-time Grammy winner and 2021 Billboard Music Award Top Artist will put on a show billed as “his most ambitious production to date.” Fans will love singing along to “Blinding Lights,” which was named the No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 song of all time, as well as other hits like “You Right,” “Take My Breath” and “Save Your Tears.”
Aug. 20 | Southlake
Run, walk and roll at the Hot Hatch Chile Run in Southlake, a spicy event that starts at Central Market. This 10K, 5K or 1-mile race offers options for racers of all abilities, including hand-cycling. It benefits the Neuro Assistance Foundation, which assists spinal cord injured and disabled individuals in order to help them achieve self-sufficiency through assistive technology and home modifications. It’s a fun way to celebrate our diverse community!
Aug. 24 | Pavilion At Toyota Music Factory
Dance along to today’s pop hits at Kidz Bop Live! Kids of all ages (and their parents) will enjoy this concert from the No. 1 music brand for kids. Egan, Layla, Dominic and Camille (the Kidz) will perform songs like “Good 4 U” by Olivia Rodrigo and “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I, among many others. There will also be a Daddy Dance Off, where all the dads in the audience can bust a move to a mashup of Y2K hits. Since 2001, Kidz Bop has sold more than 23 million albums and generated over 8 billion streams globally. It’s guaranteed fun for everyone.
Disney’s Beauty And The Beast Jr.
Aug. 25-28 | Palace Arts Center
It’s a tale as old as time: girl loves books, boy loves his looks, girl discovers a heart inside the beast and they live happily ever after. “Beauty And The Beast” is a classic fairytale that everyone can fall in love with. The North Texas Performing Arts Center is putting on this musical in Grapevine, based on the original Tony Award-nominated Broadway production and the 1991 Academy Award-winning motion picture. It includes all your favorite songs like “Be Our Guest” and “Gaston,” colorful costumes, a scary castle and a beautiful story of forgiveness and love.
Aug. 31 | Pavilion At Toyota Music Factory
The 1990s called — it wants to share one of its favorite bands with you! Alternative rock group the Goo Goo Dolls are ready to usher in a new generation of Dolls this month at their concert at Toyota Music Factory. The band, made up of John Rzeznik and Robby Takac, has been making music for over three decades. It has sold 12 million records, received three Grammy nominations and had music covered by Taylor Swift. Pretty cool, right? They are the band behind “Iris,” which was named the No. 1 Top 40 song of the last 20 years.
