There are so many ways to get active and give back with your loved ones this weekend. Whether you want to run for a good cause, donate your time or just enjoy a night out with the family, we've got you covered. Here are five family-friendly activities happening this weekend.
Baseball season is back, so treat the family to a day out at Globe Life to watch the Texas Rangers take on the Blue Jays. Come out on Friday at 7:05 p.m. in your favorite red jersey, and get ready to sit back and watch America's pastime. While you're out at the ballpark, try out one of their new crazy food options. They are reason enough to venture over to Arlington. Be sure to stick around for the firework show that will start right after the game.
Willy Wonka and Chocolate Factory
For a mouthwatering night out on the town, stop by The Palace Arts Center on April 6 to enjoy a special showing of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. This captivating classic will make you feel like you’ve found the golden ticket. The whole family will love following Charlie on his venture through the infamous factory. And to really complete your evening, be sure to bring in a same-day receipt from any Grapevine restaurant to get free popcorn at the concession stand.
Support a great local cause by participating in the Run4Elise 5K/1 Mile fun run on Saturday. All of the efforts from the exciting event will go to the Swim4Elise Foundation and 2018 Elise Cerami Memorial Scholarship. The foundation works to provide outreach programs and award scholarships to swimmers committed to excellence and safety in their sport. The whole family can easily navigate this easy route and make it to the downhill finish, so everyone can walk away a winner.
If your kids want to give back this weekend, sign them up for The Dragon Event on Saturday. This day of service helps local high school students give back to the community. The group will be split to complete meaningful tasks around town, like gardening and meal packing. This is the first year for the student-led event, so be sure your little Dragon shows their support.
Grand Prairie's Farmers Market
One of the biggest and most popular local farmers markets is back. On Saturday, locals can come out for the season opener of the Grand Prairie Farmers Market. Every Saturday, starting on April 7, and running through December from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., locals can come shop for locally grown fruits, vegetables, meats, honey and other goodies. On Opening Day, the farmers market will feature a Mayor's No Frills Walk/Stroll led by Mayor Ron Jensen and a Get Fit FK. It's a great opportunity to get outside and pick up a few healthy habits along the way.
