The organizers of Green Fest Southlake want residents to know it's easy to be green.
Community members are encouraged to learn how-to be environmentally friendly in their home, business and everyday life during the 6th Annual Green Fest Southlake from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, at Rustin Park in Southlake Town Square.
The family-friendly event is free to attend.
Bob Jones Nature Center is hosting the event for the first time. The purpose of the event is to provide an fun, educational forum for residents and business owners to understand the various ways to be better stewards of natural resources.
Previously, the event was hosted through GreenFellows, Inc., a Southlake-based non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about being eco-friendly.
“GreenFellows was much smaller than BJNC and we realized that if we wanted to take the event to the next level, we needed the support of a larger organization. BJNC has a similar mission and is a natural fit for Green Fest,” explains Audra Lewandowski, event founder and board member for BJNC, noting all funds raised at Green Fest will go to fund environmental restoration projects at BJNC.
On Saturday, Rustin Park will be transformed into an environmental showcase of environmentally-friendly exhibitors and products, focusing on how to make sure you are going green.
Attendees will see the latest energy efficient solutions for the business and home, as well as product demonstrations.
Activities that will be at the event range from live entertainment to prize drawings to recycling contests.
More than 30 exhibitors will be featured during Green Fest Southlake, including Central Market and Whole Earth Provision.
“We want Green Fest to be a fun family event, but more importantly, to raise awareness about what else can done to live a sustainable life," Lewandowski stated. "Most people in Southlake recycle and have switched to LED light bulbs, but there is more they can do to be green without spending a lot of money. As consumers, we need to recognize that it is hard to find a product that doesn’t have a green alternative ̶ from cars and carpet to cleaning solutions."
