Tarrant County citizens are invited to join the Tarrant County Hospital District (the “District”) and the Tarrant County Commissioners Court at five Town Hall meetings this summer to discuss updating and expandingbrJohn Peter Smith Hospital.
John Peter Smith Hospital is the county's public hospitalbrlocated in Fort Worth, and the improvements will upgrade facilities to meet thebrDistrict's mission in providing quality healthcare for Tarrant Countybrresidents.
The total cost of this project is approximately $809brmillion, which will be used for three major components: construction of abrpatient hospital tower with a parking garage; construction of a psychiatricbrhospital; and renovation of existing facilities.
According to the press release, a bond financing electionbrwould be advantageous for this project. The low interest rate available forbrhigh-quality bonds combined with the expectation of continued construction costbrinflation means building now could save millions over the length of the debtbrservice.
Both the District and the Commissioners Court will take abrfiscally responsible approach to the issuance of the bonds that are approved bybrvoters. They intend only to issue bonds if the District has the capacity tobrrepay them without a tax rate increase.
According to the press release, the District's currentbrfacilities are outdated, inefficient and lack the capacity to serve the growingbrpopulation of Tarrant County. It is essential the District modernize itsbrfacilities in order to best serve the local population.
