A new football season is upon Dragon Nation, and with it comes new faces, new games and new surprises. Before you go to the kickoff on Friday, here are five things to know about Dragon Football’s upcoming season.
1. New Captains, Who Dis?
Southlake Carroll confirmed its new captains ahead of the season, and these seven athletes will be ones to watch. According to the athletic department, this year’s captains include seniors Graham Knowles, Andrew Cunningham, Harrison Moore and Jacob Jordan on offense and Dustan Mark, Aaron Scherp and Eric Garza on defense.
2. Split Schedule
The Dragons will be dividing a lot of time between Dragon Stadium and the road this season. According to the 2023 schedule, half of the Dragons’ games will be at home, while the other half will be away games. With opponents including Cedar Hill, Keller Timber Creek, Keller, Eaton and Byron Nelson, the Dragons have a lot of miles ahead of them.
3. More Stadium Space
With the first home game kicking off the season on Friday, Aug. 25, the Carroll Athletic Department is gearing up for it by expanding the student section in the bleachers. According to the department, the student section will include three sections from the 10-yard to the 50-yard line and will house all Dragons from fifth through 12th grade.
4. Watch Out For The Weather
As temperatures continue to maintain well above 100 degrees, attendees are encouraged to wear light clothing and stay hydrated throughout the first few football games. The season opener is delayed by a full hour solely because of the heat index.
5. After The Game
When the game ends, you and your family will no doubt be hungry, and Southlake has plenty of local options to enjoy. Whether you go to Moxies, Truluck’s, The Curve Lounge, HG Sply Co., Wildwood Grill or the new Henley Kitchen & Bar, there are a lot of places to grab your grub after the final buzzer.
