The Southlake Carroll boys cross-country team has done it again.
On Friday, Nov. 4, the cross-country team traveled to Old Settlers Park in Round Rock to compete in the state championship. Defeating runner-up Austin Vandegrift by 19 points, the boys not only earned their fourth straight state championship but also finished first or second at the meet for the 13th consecutive year. Caden Leonard finished fifth overall with a time of 15:56, while Jude Alvarez finished eighth, Logan Cantu finished 13th, Blake Bullard finished 17th, Robert Freeman finished 19th, Zach Troutman finished 22nd and Tyler Ortiz finished 55th.
The girls also made a strong showing at state, finishing second overall. Ava Bushaw was the top runner, finishing fourth overall with a time of 17:58. Meanwhile, Sylvia Schwedler finished sixth, Audrey Dunn finished seventh, Elizabeth Smits finished 16th, Alexandra Walsh finished 18th, Sarayu Veluri finished 25th and Natalie Ng finished 41st.
“It takes year-round dedication to succeed at our sport,” head coach Justin Leonard says via media release. “Words cannot describe how proud I am of our young men and women.”
