The most popular cosmetic body procedures include breastbraugmentation (breast enlargement with implants) with or without a breast lift, brtummy tuck and liposuction. These can be done in combination for both men andbrwomen. We are sharing some of the most common questions patients have regardingbrthese procedures.
Dr. Mason of Southlake Plastic Surgery has been practicing inbrSouthlake for more than 13 years and has performed more than 4,000 cosmeticbrprocedures ranging from head to toe.
What is the mostbrcommon cosmetic procedure for the body?
The most common procedure in my practice is still BreastbrAugmentation surgery. This can be done with or without a lift, which depends onbrthe amount of sagging. This is most common for women who have had children butbrmay also be necessary for patients who have undergone weight loss. Tummy Tucksbr(Abdominoplasty) and Liposuction are also very common surgeries performed inbrour accredited Surgery Facility on site at Southlake Plastic Surgery. Any ofbrthese procedures can also be done at the same time; this is often referred tobrgenerically as a “mommy makeover.”
How long is thebrrecovery process after cosmetic surgery?
This depends on the particular procedure. For almost anybrprocedure, the first two days are the most uncomfortable/painful. Painbrmedication and muscle relaxers are prescribed to alleviate any discomfort.
For Breast Augmentation surgery, most patients feel goodbrafter 3-4 days.
For Tummy Tuck patients, patients feel better after theirbrdrains and pain pumps are taken out after about 4-5 days. There is still quitebra bit of soreness and discomfort for 2-3 weeks.
For Liposuction surgery, patients feel sore and can bebrbruised for about two weeks.
Full recovery for most procedures is about 4-6 weeks beforebrpatients feel “normal.”
Can you exercisebrafter surgery?
It is recommended to take it easy for the first 6 weeksbrafter surgery. No aerobic activity or weight lifting can be done for at leastbrthe first 4 weeks. Depending on the procedure, moderate activity such asbrwalking, stair-step, or elliptical can be resumed after 2-3 weeks. After 6brweeks and everything has healed completely, all physical activities can bebrresumed.
Can I get in thebrwater and swim after surgery? I am planning to go to the beach this summer.
Patients are discouraged from submerging in water for thebrfirst 6 weeks of surgery until after all incisions have completely closed andbrhealed. This includes hot tubs, swimming pools, lakes, and even full baths. Webrwant to minimize the chance of infection and keep all incisions clean and drybruntil completely healed.
What is the totalbrcost of these types of procedures?
All of these estimates include the surgery fee, the surgerybrfacility fee, anesthesiologist, and implants/supplies.
Breast augmentation surgery (with silicone gel implants) isbrabout $5500. It is less expensive if you choose saline implants.
Tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) is about $8500.
Liposuction for the first area (for example, inner and outerbrthighs) is about $3200. If you add a second area, the total cost is aboutbr$5500.
Any or all of these procedures can be combined, and if so,brthe fees are reduced.
