After raising over $48 million for 2,690 local nonprofits last year, North Texas Giving Day is returning Thursday, September 19, for its 11th year in the Metroplex.
Raising more than $240 million in total since its first event in 2009, North Texas Giving Day is an annual 18-hour fundraising event organized by the Communities Foundation of Texas to raise money for local nonprofits and charities. According to an NTGD media release, all 20 Texas counties received donations from 27 countries and all 50 states last year.
This helped NTGD surpass its previous record of $39 million in 2017 with over $48 million in 2018.
“As we embarked on our 10th year, we had big dreams for what this day could bring to North Texas,” says Dave Scullin, Communities Foundation Texas CEO and President. “More important than the number of dollars raised is the number of lives that now can be improved thanks to everyone who gave.”
This year’s giving day is expected to be even bigger than last year with 3,059 charities and nonprofits expected to participate. Some local organizations tend to children with special needs, such as Amy’s Wish With Wings and the Miracle League of Southlake, while other groups such as Heart of a Champion, Granted Advocacy Partners and Kids Matter International assists underprivileged children and at-risk youth. Other associations including the iBee Foundation, the Keep Dreaming Big Project and Valiant Hearts provide relief for women and children who have suffered from abuse, while the youth group Teen Life empowers teenagers by providing support groups on campuses.
There are also an assortment of educational programs participating this year. There are some schools involved including Clariden School, Crown of Life Lutheran School, King’s University and Southlake Montessori, as well as educational support groups like Carroll Education Foundation and the Carroll ISD Band Boosters. There is also the Northeast Tarrant County A&M Club, which provides scholarships to graduating seniors who are committed to Texas A&M University, and the Health Occupations Students of America, a group that empowers and supports future health professionals.
Other local organizations include the transportation group Call A Ride Of Southlake, the Southlake-based Epic Animal Rescue group, the non-denominational missions group Millions From One, the synchronized swimming club Pirouettes of Texas, the Thunder Water Polo Club and the performance group Theatre of North Texas.
