PAUL VENESKY
INCOMING BAND COUNCIL PRESIDENT, SECTION LEADER, GREEN JACKETS
Paul Venesky is a percussionist with many talents—he plays the tenor drums in marching band, drums in jazz band and the marimba for solo performances and contests. For concert band, he plays the timpani drums, snare drum and various auxiliary instruments such as the tambourine and, his personal favorite, the vibraslap, a funky-looking instrument consisting of a piece of stiff wire, a wooden ball and a hollow box with metal teeth inside. As a section leader and Band Council president, Paul is optimistic about the band's direction. “I'm excited to see how much better and more competitive we become this year,” he says. “I'm also looking forward to jamming out in the bleachers at football games with all my friends.”
Reflecting on his favorite Dragon moments, playing at Carnegie Hall with the Carroll Wind Symphony comes to mind. “Every musician would love to play there, but not everyone has the opportunity,” Paul says. “I'm incredibly grateful for having been able to perform there.”
WHAT OTHERS SAY:
“Paul is an outstanding and well-rounded percussionist in the Carroll Dragon Band. At an individual level, he has been successful both in the All-Region band and as a First-Division soloist at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble competition,” says Ken Johnson, marching band director. “The band staff anticipates great things from Paul during his senior year.”
