Carroll sophomore distance runner Reed Brown made a significant impression at his first UIL State Track and Field meet last weekend, winning two Class 6A silver medals, according to MySouthlakeNews.
"[My teammates] really helped push me this year to bigger expectationsbrthan I had for myself," Brown said. "It really surprised me, because I had no idea I could dobrall of that as early as I did."
Brown finished second in the 3,200 meters and in the 1,600 meters. It has been a memorable year for Brown, according to the recent article. He also helped lead the Dragon cross country team to the state title in the fall.
Brown finished the 3,200 meters with a time of 9:00.82 and New Braunfels Canyon’s Alex Rogers finished first at 9:00.09. Brown ran the 1,600 meters the following day and timed 4:15.50 — also less than a second off Rogers.
"It was a little disappointing knowing how close I was; just a half a second away," he said. "It was also very exciting though, because I don’t think many people expected me to be there and I didn’t expect to be there. I’ll work hard this year and get ready to come back stronger next year."
Brown said nothing carries over from previous years to next year, however. The incoming junior pledged to start off fresh, making sure the squad upholds its team/family atmosphere on its way to prepare for another successful season. The support they receive each year does not go unnoticed.
"I’d like to thank everyone who’s supported me and the teambron the way throughout the seasons," he said. "It really helps having people justbrcongratulating you and it gets you a little more feeling like you accomplishedbrmore than you did. Thanks to everyone who was following us throughout ourbrseason."
