At ImpactbrPerformance and Fitness, physical rehabilitation and sports training is a highbrdemand service. In both PT and sportsbrtraining, the SAID principle asserts that the human bodybradapts specifically to imposed demands. In other words, given stressors on thebrhuman system, whether biomechanical or neurological, there will be a SpecificbrAdaptation to Imposed Demands (SAID). Imposed demand can come inbrmany forms, from distance to weight to time, depending on what you’re trainingbrto accomplish. Obviously to get "imposed demand" it will requirebrchange in something that your body is not used to experiencing. When we takebrthis principle into the strength training genre we have multiple ways to changebrthe demand with change being the key word. We can manipulate the weight, setsbror repetitions. We can change the rest intervals either in the work out orbrbetween sessions or we can change the tempo of the exercise (time spent underbrstress or time under tension).
All of thesebrvariables that were mentioned have differing results depending on the levelbr& timing of their particular application. As trainers we don't have thebrsame goals for every athlete that we work with, the requirements for abrfootball player is very different than that of a distance swimmer but each canbrmake progress with a correctly applied resistance training program.
Next month I willbrshare the results of a Southlake Carroll sophomore swimmer who spent some timebrworking out at Impact Performance & Fitness. Through these results we willbrsee how quickly the SAID principle can effect an athlete. We will look at twobrsets of benchmarks where our swimmer was able to see tangible improvements onbrthe clock and as we all know, the clock does not lie.
